Wat Pha Sorn Kaew is definitely different to other big Buddhas in Thailand. Even the surrounding buildings are unique in their architecture. Many people have commented that this is one of the most breathtaking places they have visited in the entire country. Now that’s a statement. See for yourself:
The “Wow” That is Wat Pha Sorn Kaew
The name Wat Pha Sorn Kaew means temple on a glass cliff in English. The temple has been 10 years in the making and consists of a Buddhist Monastery and other buildings. It is just covered in mosaic tiles. They are everywhere you look.
There is no admission fee to the site. You will be asked to pay for parking – around 30 baht. The usual respectful dress rules apply at this temple too. You will be given appropriate clothing if you are not dressed properly.
The location is very special – nestled into a lush green valley surrounded by mountains. The area is home to many Swiss and German expats and you will find a few local businesses like Swiss bakeries close by.
Mosaic Tiled Monastery
The monks building is adorned in beautiful mosaic and brightly coloured tiles. There’s also a delightful assortment of tea cup saucers, plates and various china scattered throughout the design. You can spend a very long time just taking in all of the stunning work which must have taken so long to plan and execute. The intricately patterned pillars and walls look amazing from every angle.
How To Get To Wat Pha Sorn Kaew
If you are in Bangkok you can catch a bus from Mo Chit Bus Station. Catch a bus to Phetchabun or Lom Sak. Once you arrive you will need to hire a private van or car to reach the temple. Best bet is to book a hotel in Phetchabun as this city has a little bit of nightlife and restaurants.
